It didnt take long for curiosity to strike me. We create aerial images and videos of some of the most breathtaking places in the world. When I started my journey into urban photography, I mostly saw empty, abandoned and decaying buildings. I am also the Co-Founder of Boys with Drones, a creative company that I run with my best friend Sven van der Wal. “At first it started as a hobby, something to do during my free time. “Last year I celebrated ten years with a book that collects all my work”, says Roman. He locates them, studies them, finds a way in and photographs and documents them. He has been researching abandoned buildings online, on maps, for eleven years now. Roman is Dutch, and when we interview him he has just returned from Italy, where he hopes to move one day because of his strong interest in all the abandoned buildings that can be found there.
